Reviews
Great small French restaurant worth the stop for unique food. Service was fast friendly and helpful, wine was excellent. Had the spicy meatballs which had good flavor but were not spicy. The breakfast sandwich was outstanding and highly recommended. Overall great place to grab lunch.
Cute little cafe off of Prince Street in SOHO. Tasty food, very friendly and good service, and reasonable prices. Somewhat limited menu however and a VERY tight/crowded space. The baked pasta was delicious - not just a baked mac and cheese for adults (photo included) - would recommend!
The food is delicious. Highly recommended the Moroccan Couscous. We added the chicken in this dish and it was nice. The breakfast sandwich that came with the bagette is nice. Sceamble Egg and tomato were together and the bread is so good.
Sat outside due to good weather, great spot to people watch and just chill .
Service was great !
Coffee , cappuccino was awesome, good balance of espresso and milk .
I had the baked eggs , if you are a tomato fan you would love this dish .
I encountered to go this place to take a short rest.
I didn't expect the foods in this place.
However, I was punched in my head due to its berry cheese cake. It was full of cream flavor even though the ingredients were not 'guilty pleasure'.
Please try this place.
Stumbled upon this place and had breakfast. Very cool old school restaurant. Service was great and most of our food was amazing. Baked feta was pungent in the best way. Hummus was light and tasty. Overall we loved what we had to eat only dish that wasn’t a hit was the meatballs and rice, it was very under seasoned. All else was great and we will definitely return.
Edgar Allen Poe once said "In the realm of universal adoration, naught but a striped awning prevails. It beholds the extraordinary and the mundane with equanimity, extending its embrace to all, as if cognizant of our common origin"
...Okay he didn't say that, but perhaps he should have. Few things get me going like a striped awning.
We sat under the blue and white striped awning that Cafe Gitane provides. Great people watching spot with a lot of foot traffic. The human experience truly fascinates me, and the outdoor seating is a front row seat to it. All sorts of characters walking by giving you everything from a live performance to style inspiration to the cutest dog you've ever seen.
I got the baked eggs with tomato, and it ended up being one of the best decisions I made over the weekend, although that's not saying much ahahahaha.
I added the Merguez sausages, and I will stick my neck out on the line here and say those are what made the meal. They took it from good to great. One of the better and more unique dishes I have had in a minute, as the sausages were cooked to perfection, teaming up well with the eggs, tomato sauce, and potatoes that are lurking at the bottom of the dish. A better Shakshuka.
Thank you for the inspiration Cafe Gitane, but more importantly, thank you for the striped awning.
Set down quite quickly although we were told the wait will be longer. The small plate that the avocado toast was served on, said it all- it was not great. Light spread of avocado on one small piece of bread (that was cut to two)- I was really not impressed. The marguez sausage on the side was very dry and almost burnt. Their take on the breakfast sandwich in the baguette was good just wish they were more generous with what they put inside (got only one small piece of tomato).
Service could have been little bit nicer.
